A hand-sewn mini project. Inspired by the Cornish coast and the local plants, I wanted to create a dress made from untreated seaweed and fully hand-stitched together. I primarily used oarweed, a type of large brown algae; it is easily processed and commonly available along the coastline.
I particularly enjoyed the transformability of seaweed: it can dry up into rigid shapes, but you can easily bring it back to its original form by soaking it in water. In order to capture the peacefulness of the sea and enjoy the slow, therapeutic process the dress was fully hand-stitched.
